All software has bugs, and Evergreen is no different. Reporting bugs is a very important way for community members & end users to let developers know about issues in Evergreen.

Evergreen uses Launchpad as its public community bug-reporting site. Anyone can create an account to file bugs to Launchpad.

IMPORTANT: All information added to Launchpad, including screenshots, is public for non-security bugs. If you are reporting a bug be sure to redact any sensitive information in your report.

There have been presentations at recent Evergreen Conferences about using Launchpad and reporting bugs. If you are new to the Evergreen community or to Launchpad, we recommend that you start with these presentations:

  • 2021: Intro to Launchpad, by Terran McCanna (video | handout)
  • 2018: Don’t be an ostrich! We want YOU to report bugs in Evergreen, by Mary Jinglewski and Andrea Buntz Neiman (slides)

More information about using Launchpad, including specifics of bug reporting, bug statuses, bug importance, assignments, milestones, and bug tags can be seen on the wiki.

The Evergreen community hosts Bug Squashing Weeks and Feedback Fests in the weeks prior to a new major release. These events are great opportunities for new community members to get involved with testing bugfixes. These events are announced on the general listserv and more information is on the wiki.
